Three 6 Mafia: Last 2 Walk

By Michael Roberts

Published on July 17, 2008

When the members of Three 6 Mafia won the 2006 Best Song Oscar for "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp," from Hustle & Flow, they reacted with so much exuberance they made Cuba Gooding Jr.'s Jerry Maguire Supporting Actor acceptance speech seem restrained by comparison — and even though the Memphis group is currently down to a duo, survivors DJ Paul and Juicy J are still basking in the glow of victory. There are missteps on Last 2 Walk, like the misbegotten "My Own Way," featuring (gag) Good Charlotte, but kiss-my-ass opus "I Told 'Em" and the radio-ready "Lolli Lolli (Pop That Body)" are confident and celebratory. As for the infectiously moronic "I'd Rather," it declares, "I love having sex, but I'd rather get some head!" Academy Award voters, take note.
