Labor Day Show

Cinema Bomar is getting to work early with its Labor Day Show. Weeks before our official day off, the collective will screen a round of vintage filmstrips about the daily grind. Two Factories: Japanese-American is a 1974 documentary strip comparing transistor radio factories in Japan and the U.S. that fueled the era’s fear of our industry being crushed by Japan’s. A Good Day’s Work: Serving reveals the joys of being a waitress; a Houston company filmed it at Galveston’s old Hill’s Restaurant. Night People’s Day (1973) is a film for kids about people who work at night in which the filmmakers supply all the sound effects with their mouths. The Dam at Nagarjanusar (1972) is a visually stunning documentary on the hand labor behind a dam in India. Other offerings include Get a Job (1985) and It’s a Matter of Pride (1975).
